In this video/class I am demonstrating my process for Sumi-e painting of the four leaf clover, using the strokes of the Chinese/Japanese “Luck” character.I am assuming that you already have a background in Sumi-e painting and hopefully are familiar with my fundamental teachings. If not, you will find information about the tools, the preparation of the space and the self in the courses entitled "Essentials for Learning Sumi-e Painting" and "Meditation with the Brush" My method is very specific and understanding it will give you a great advantage in creating vibrant Sumi-e paintings.
I am a contemporary Canadian artist. I have a degree in Fine arts (BFA) as well as Bachelor of Science (BSc) from Concordia University, Montreal. My life is inspired by oriental philosophies such as Taoism and Zen Buddhism, and my art is influenced by their teachings.
My paintings are in Sumi-e style, based on calligraphic strokes, where the emphasis is on capturing the mood, energy or spirit, rather than giving detailed description.
I have been teaching Sumi-e since 2007. I use a unique approach to facilitate people with Western or Eastern with modern background for easier learning of this profound form of creating.
I guide my students to truly see the subject matter as if seen for first time and convey that in their artwork. In my classes I help the students to connect to their body and with mindful presence, breath and Oriental brush to create dynamic and poetic image.
